Encompass Release Naming Conventions

The software industry can be one of constant change. New functionality, ongoing enhancements, compliance updates, and bug fixes are all necessary ingredients to keeping ICE Mortgage Technology’s software solutions innovative and beneficial to our clients and partners. Here is ICE Mortgage Technology's ongoing release strategy and schedule:

  • Major Release
    • Delivered three times a year (for example, Encompass 23.3, Encompass 24.1)
    • Communication Timeframe: 4-6 weeks prior to release
    • Includes in-depth documentation resources and training
  • Service Pack
    • Scheduled updates to introduce new features or functions, or to address trending issues, outside of a Major Release.
    • Communication Timeframe: 1 week prior to release
    • Includes in-depth documentation resources
  • Critical Patch
    • Unplanned update that addresses an urgent defect and/or compliance change
    • Communication Timeframe: Within 24 hours or less of release
    • Includes in-depth documentation resources

All three release communication types: Major Releases, Service Packs, and Critical Patches are sent to named contacts, system admins, and decision makers that have opted into receiving release communications from the My Messages service.

Important Note: Certain Service Pack and Critical Patch releases may be applied to your users' computers automatically and cannot be controlled manually via the Encompass Version Manager tool. These are rare instances and typically these are releases that include critical compliance or feature updates, or changes to the Encompass Server that result in a new Encompass version number. Release communications will indicate if the Service Pack or Critical Patch will be applied automatically and if an Encompass SDK upgrade is required*.

Using the Encompass Version Manager you can configure controllable Service Pack and Critical Patch releases to be applied to your users' computers automatically or you can choose to manually approve each applicable release before it is applied. Only those Service Pack and Critical Patch releases that are not applied automatically will be available for manual approval. It is recommended that all releases be applied in a timely manner.

SDK Information:

*For any Major Release or Service Pack release that includes changes to the Encompass Server that results in a new Encompass version number, the Encompass SDK run time environment must be upgraded to match the newly updated Encompass Server. If you fail to upgrade the SDK your application will not be permitted to connect to the updated Encompass Server.
