Request for Copy of Tax Return and Request for Transcript of Tax Forms: New and Classic

Encompass provides two versions of the Request for Transcript of Tax and the Request for Copy of Tax Return input forms.

  • The Request for Copy of Tax Return (Classic) and Request for Transcript of Tax (Classic) versions of the forms use the same user interface and functionality used in previous versions of 4506 and 4506-C input forms. The classic forms allow users to enter data for a single Request for Copy of Tax Return or Request for Transcript of Tax form.

  • The Request for Copy of Tax Return and Request for Transcript of Tax versions of the forms are input forms introduced with Encompass version 8.0. These forms allow users to create multiple versions of the Request for Copy of Tax Return or Request for Transcript of Tax (for example, one for the borrower and another for the co-borrower). Each version displays as an entry in a table above the input form. Select an entry to work with a form.

When to Use the Classic and New Forms

Use the classic forms to:

  • Apply content from Data Templates

  • Print 4506/4506-C output forms from Standard Forms > General Forms

  • Generate eDisclosures and Closing Disclosures

  • Order 4506-C services

Use the new input form to:

  • Print multiple 4506/4506-C output forms from Standard Forms > Verifications

  • Copy data between the classic and new forms

  • Order 4506-C services

Move Data Between Classic and New Versions

Move data from one version of the form to another version of the form by using the Import and Export icons at the top of the new version of the Request for Transcript of Tax or Request for Copy of Tax Return.

The functionality for moving data between the form is not available on the classic versions of the form.

To Move Data Between Forms:

  1. Select an entry on the table in the new version.

  2. Click the Import icon to copy data from the classic version to the new version.

    • Or, click the Export icon to copy data from the new version to the classic version.

Settings Functionality

The Data Templates setting can be used only with the classic version of the forms. New or classic versions of the forms can be used with the Documents, Document Groups, Document Stacking Templates, Input Form Sets, Loan Form Printing business rules, and Print Form Groups.

To set up data templates, rules, or settings to reference the 4506 or 4506-C forms, go to the appropriate area in Encompass Settings and determine if you want to reference the classic or new version of the form as needed. Any existing settings or rules set up in previous versions of Encompass that reference the 4506 or 4506-C by name (for example, if you set up a Documents setting to reference IRS4506T - Trans Request) will now be referencing the new version of the forms in Encompass 8.0.0.3. If you want to reference the classic version, you must update the setting accordingly. If you have existing settings configured in previous versions of Encompass that reference the 4506 or 4506-C forms, check each applicable setting to ensure that your settings are configured as desired in Encompass 8.0.0.3. For more information, refer to the Updating eFolder Setup > Document Rules and Settings for Use With Classic 4506 and 4506-C Forms section below.

Data Templates

Data Templates that include data for the Request for Transcript of Tax and the Request for Copy of Tax Return input forms can be applied only to the classic versions of the forms. By default, data configured in the 4506-C Service setting takes precedent over data from the Data Template, but a template can be appended to the loan file to overwrite the 4506-C setting data.

Add Classic Forms to All Users User Group

To ensure the classic version of the 4506 or 4506-C forms are accessible to all applicable users and that they are available by default in the appropriate settings in Encompass Settings, add the classic forms to the Standard Print Forms list for the All Users user group.

To Add Classic Forms to the All Users Users Group:

  1. On the menu bar, click Encompass, and then click Settings.

  2. On the left panel, click Company/User Setup, and then click User Groups.

  3. In the left section, click All Users.

  4. Click the Resources tab.

  5. In the Standard Print Forms group, click the New icon.

  6. Click to select the four IRS4506 and IRS4506T options in the All Standard Print Forms list.

  7. Click the right arrow button to move the forms to the Selected Forms list, and then click OK.

  8. Click the Save icon to save your changes.

Updating eFolder Setup > Document Rules and Settings for Use With Classic 4506 and 4506-C Forms

If you set up the eFolder Setup > Documents setting to reference either IRS4506T - Trans Request or IRS4506 - Copy Request in previous versions of Encompass, and have upgraded to 8.0.0.3, you may go to eFolder Setup > Documents setting (in 8.0.0.3) and adjust your existing rules and settings to point to the classic version of these forms. If you do not adjust these settings, the Documents setting will reference the new version of these forms by default. Refer to the instructions on the Documents topic to update the settings.

If you update the Documents setting to reference the classic version of the 4506 or 4506-C documents, be sure to also update the Document Groups and Document Stacking Templates settings to reference the classic version of these documents as needed.

To set up additional rules and settings to reference the classic version of the 4506 and 4506-C forms, update the appropriate settings in Encompass Settings as needed.
